Description

The MUNGO 2 is a multipurpose vehicle designed and assembled by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and intended for Special Operations forces. Having the same small size and low overall weight of previous MUNGO vehicles, the new variant can be airlifted by both fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft. Actually, the MUNGO 2 was specifically developed for transportation on a CH-53 transport helicopter. It has a payload of 1.5 tons and is particularly suitable for the mission-specific transport of munitions, fuel, maintenance and NBC decontamination equipment even in trailer operations. KMW assembled and delivered the first three pre-series prototypes to the German Army in 2011. After passing operational test, the German Army ordered 31 series MUNGO 2 multipurpose vehicles for its Special Operations forces in September 2011 to be delivered by 2013. The new version also features high mobility and a chassis optimized for special missions in harsh terrains such as Afghanistan. The vehicle's hull provides protection against ballistic threats, Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and mine blasts. A fully armored floor separated from the chassis and a safety cell provide enhanced protection for the two-man crew inside the cab. The MUNGO 2 multipurpose vehicle can use its front mounting to deploy engineering systems with a quick change.
