Description

The Liner is a new submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) developed by the State Missile Center (Makeyev) for the Russian Navy. It is an advanced version of the solid-propellant Sineva ballistic missile. The Liner features a longer range and enhanced missile defense penetration capability. The missile can carry up to 12 small yield nuclear warheads or 4 medium yield nuclear warheads, or a mixture of both. In comparison with Liner, Bulava can carry 6-to-10 small yield nukes and Sineva only 4 small yield nukes. The Russian Navy carried out the first test launch from the Tula, a Delta IV strategic submarine, in the Barents Sea targeting the Kura test grounds on the Kamchatka peninsula on September 30, 2011. The Liner missile was being used as a test weapon for the S-500 missile defense system in 2023-2024 launched from Delta IV submarines. It carries an hypersonic target vehicle.
