Description

The Airbus Helicopters H160, formerly known as the X4, is a 5.5-to-6 ton, medium, twin-engine helicopter incorporating innovative technologies. The H160 is tailored for a wide range of applications, including oil and gas operations, emergency medical services, public services, business and private aviation. In July 2012, Airbus Helicopters selected the Pratt & Whitney PW210E and Turbomeca Arrano engines to power its new aircraft. In February 2015 the Arrano 1A engine was selected as the only power plant available for the X4 medium helicopter due to the need of a significant power increase. Airbus Helicopters' X4/H160 was presented to the public at HAI on March 3, 2015. The H160 helicopter includes the largest-ever Fenestron shrouded tail rotor, which is also double-canted at 12-degree angles, further enhancing anti-torque control efficiency; and the all-new Biplane Stabilizer, whose unique design involves a staggered placement of the dual-level, interconnected stabilizers. These features offer improved performance and flight stability while facilitating pilot maneuvers and significantly reduces aerodynamic penalties in low-speed flight and hover. The H160 first flight is planned within 2015 and the entry into service is scheduled for 2018.
