The Night Intruder 300, also known as RQ-101, is an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) designed to meet the requirements of the Republic of Korea Army. It has been designed to conduct reconnaissance, surveillance, search and rescue, damage assessment, and target acquisition missions over the battlefield. The Night Intruder 300 is a dependable UAV system providing commanders and intelligence officers with near real-time imagery during day/might and all weather conditions. It was developed entirely by Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) in the 1990s and entered service in 2001 with two systems delivered by 2004. This UAV system operates at the RoKA Corps level delivering day/night Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. The RQ-101 Night Intruder 300 UAV has been to operate at ranges of up to 120 km from the ground control station using a line-of-sight data-link and 200 km employing a relay system for beyond line-of-sight operations. A single system includes several air vehicles, ground control station, ground data terminal and launch control station. KAI expects to upgrade the existing systems between 2008 and 2011 with enhanced, long-range payloads and improved avionics as well as introducing other improvements to the ground control station and launch control station.
