Description
The Type 004 is a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier under construction in China to equip the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). With a full displacement of around 110,000 tons the ship will carry an air wing of more than 80 aircraft including the Chinese made J-15T aircraft and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopters. The J-21 or J-31 stealth fighter may also be embarked upon the new aircraft carrier. The main feature of this new aircraft carrier is that it will be equipped with electro-magnetic catapults facilitating aircraft operations. The Type 004 may be commissioned in the 2028-2030 timeframe.
