Description

Dassault Mirage III is a single-engine, single-seat, supersonic, light fighter aircraft developed for the French Air Force. Originally, it was designed to perform air defense missions but follow-on models expanded its role becoming thus a truly light multi-purpose aircraft. Mirage 5 and Mirage 50 variants added ground attack capability to Mirage III fighter. It was to sold Kfir C-2 and C-7 aircraft were developed by Israel based on the Mirage III blue prints. South Africa operated another variant of Mirage III called Cheetah. It was sold to over 20 international customers. Delta-wing Mirage III was powered by one Atar 9 turbojet. Advanced variants also feature canard fore planes which enhances its flight envelope. It could be equipped with Cyrano, Aida or Agave radar systems. Its armament comprises two internal DEFA 30mm cannons, R530 and R550 Magic short-range air-to-air missiles, conventional or nuclear bombs, gun pods, and AS30 and AS-37 Martel air-to-surface missiles.
