Gowind 2500
Gowind 2500
The DCNS Gowind 2500 class corvette is a stealth, multi-mission surface combat ship designed for surveillance, protection, escort, anti-surface (ASuW) and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions. Besides, the vessel is also suitable for maritime security against trafficking and piracy. The Gowind 2500 features an helicopter deck allowing for operation of a heavy helicopter and/or unmanned air vehicles at high seas. In October 2014, France signed with Egypt a 1 billion Euro contract for four 2,400-ton Gowind class corvettes equipped with the Setis combat management system. These vessels will be fitted with the MM40 Exocet anti-ship missiles and VL Mica surface-to-air missiles supplied by MBDA. DCNS may supply the MU90 Impact or BlackShark torpedoes for the four vessels. A further order for two additional corvettes may follow in late 2014 or early 2015. In November 2017 the United Arab Emirates placed an order for 2+2 Gowind corvettes.
