Description

The AN/TPQ-53, formerly the EQ-36 or Enhanced TPQ-36, is an enhanced variant of the US Army's AN/TPQ-36 counterfire target acquisition radar intended as the replacement for aging TPQ-36 and TPQ-37 radars. The US Army awarded Lockheed Martin a $120 million developmental contract September 26, 2006, for five EQ-36 to be delivered within 36 months. The AN/TPQ-53 solid-state radar provides the army commanders with the capability to detect, classify, track and determine the location of enemy indirect fire such as mortars, artillery and rockets. The US Army plans call for the procurement of more than 180 AN/TPQ-53 (EQ-36) radars valued at more than $1.6 billion.
