Description

The 9M522 is a state-of-the-art 122mm unguided rocket projectile fitted with a separable High Explosive (HE) fragmentation warhead. The 25 kg warhead features 1,800 pre-fragmented (0.78 grams), 690 pre-fragmented (5.5 grams) and 1,210 semi-ready (7.5 grams) fragments. It has been optimized to engage manpower, sheltered and in the open, soft-skinned materiel and APCs in concentration areas, artillery and mortar batteries, command posts and other targets. The rocket projectile can engage targets at ranges of up to 37,500 meters operating at temperatures between -50-degree to +50-degree Celsius. The new rocket motor provides near twice range compared with legacy Grad projectiles. The 9M522 rocket projectile was developed and produced by Splav for the upgraded Grad-1, now Tornado-G, multiple launch rocket system.
