Description

The Drel, Drill in English, is a smart guided bomb developed by Bazalt which is virtually invisible to electro-optical warners and seekers as well as radars. Besides, the bomb is immune to electronic countermeasures. The Drel has an effective range of 30 kilometers and has been designed to be released by the Su-57 fifth generation aircraft. It can be released from altitudes ranging from 14 kilometers to 100 meters and is equipped with a cluster warhead which includes 15 sub-munitions weighing about 20 kilograms each. The guidance system combines the inertial navigation system (INS), infrared imaging and GLONASS as well as some sort of IFF system or radio-frequency receiver to discriminate between friend or foe targets. A single Drel bomb can take out up to 10 enemy main battle tanks (MBTs). Special sub-munitions allow this new cluster bomb to take out bunkers and field fortifications. The sub-munitions are released at an altitude of 250 meters. The Drel smart bomb existence was released in September 2016. It is expected to enter mass production in 2021 with deliveries starting in 2022.
