Description
The LHD amphibious assault ship is being designed by IZAR for the Spanish Navy. The LHD will be able to transport and disembark Spanish Marines forces using landing craft and helicopters. Eventually, it could be able to operate as an aircraft carrier equipped with the Harrier V/STOL aircraft. The LHD will be deployed beyond 2010. The purpose of the Spanish LHD ship remains uncertain as well as its future. It might be employed to complement Galicia-class ships or to replace Principe de Asturias aircraft carrier. If deployed the LHD will be the biggest ship operated by the Spanish Navy.
