Project 11711

The Project 11711 Ivan Gren is a new class of amphibious assault ships designed by Nevskoye PDB and being built by the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad for the Russian Navy. These 5,000-6,000-ton landing crafts are capable of carrying 13 T-90S main battle tanks or 36 armored personnel carriers (APCs) along with 350 troops at ranges of 3,500 nautical miles. The troops and armored vehicles are offloaded using a landing ramp at bow. Powered by two diesel engines these crafts can achieve a top speed of 18 knots or 16 knots at cruise. These ships are armed with a AK-176M 76mm naval gun, two close-in weapon systems and two WM-18 multiple rocket launchers. These ships are provided with flight deck allowing operation of rotary wing aircraft. As of early 2012, the Russian Navy plans called for the procurement of six crafts through 2020. The lead ship, Ivan Gren, was expected to be commissioned in 2016, finally commissioned in 2018. The Russian Navy canceled the construction of four out of six vessels in favor of a larger amphibious landing ships. Finally, the class was meant to consist of four ships only. In 2022, the Russian Navy ordered two additional ships for the Black Sea fleet. Another five ships are intended to be delivered by 2030.
