Description

The Foudre-class landing platform dock ships have been designed to perform landing of troops and their equipment on unprepared coasts, naval logistics support, and humanitarian missions. They accommodate heavy helicopters and landing craft as well as troops and equipment. The flight deck offers support for the deployment of 4 heavy helicopters simultaneously. The French Navy ordered 2 Foudre-class landing platform dock ships delivered between 1990 and 1998. These ships were sold to Chile and Brazil in the 2010s.
