Description

The AN/TPS-59 is an L-band (IEEE designation) or D-band (NATO designation) three-dimensional, all solid-state air defense radar, manufactured by Lockheed Martin in the United States. It provides long-range surveillance and ground-control intercept capabilities in a tactically mobile environment, with an instrumented range of 7 to 740 km and a 360° azimuth scan. Developed for the United States Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) and the United States Marine Corps, the TPS-59(V)3 is designed to integrate with HAWK and Patriot missile systems, offering validated performance against ballistic missiles and air-breathing threats. The radar is transportable by truck, helicopter, or C-130 cargo plane, and its export version, the General Electric GE 592, was supplied to the UK and Belgium in 1979, serving as a predecessor to the AN/FPS-117.
