Description
The LongShot is a program from DARPA aimed at developing an air-launched unmanned aircraft carrying air-to-air missiles (AAMs). The concept is intended to extend the range of fighter aircraft while engaging other airborne targets from extremely long ranges. The LongShot will protect fighter aircraft keeping them safe from adversaries’ air-to-air missiles. The LongShot program was unveiled in February 2021 and the unmanned aircraft is expected to get the new AIM-260 air-to-air missile.
