Description
The K1 AVLB is an armored vehicle launched bridge based on the K1 main battle tank and deployed by the Republic of Korea Army 1993. It was developed by Hyundai Rotem in the late 1980s with assistance from Vickers (now part of BAE Systems) of UK. The scissor-type bridge system mounted on the chassis is 4 meters and 22 meters long. The bridge allows vehicles weighing up to 60 tons (MLC66) to cross over it with an estimated bridge life cycle of 8,000 vehicles crossing over it. A crew of two-man can install the bridge in three minutes and recover it in 10 minutes. The K1 AVLB is equipped with a 7.62mm machine gun for self-defense purposes only.
