Description

AgustaWestland's A119 Koala is a lightweight, single Pratt & Whitney PT6-37A engine, low cost, high performance helicopter intended for law enforcement, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), fire fighting, offshore operations and transport applications. It can accommodate up to eight persons including one pilot and up to seven passengers. It is fitted with modern avionics, liquid crystal displays and many improvements to reduce pilot's workload. The spacious cabin is complemented by a large baggage bay. As of 2005, the helicopter is in service in seven countries serving commercial operators and public agencies such as Police Departments. The A119 is also available for military customers but no sales of such a militarized models have been reported to date. The A109 Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) configuration is the same that AgustaWestland is offering for the militarized variant of the A119 helicopter. The AgustaWestland A119 Koala entered revenue service in 2000 with Australia's LinFox carrier. Since then, the A119 has been ordered by passenger transport-oriented operators and police departments to conduct law enforcement missions. Its flexible and multi-mission capabilities allow the aircraft to be fitted with FLIR, cargo hook, medical litter, rescue hoist and gun pods. On 3 August 2006, Mexican carrier Aerolineas Ejecutivas signed a five-year distribution agreement with AgustaWestland including two A109 Power and one A119 Koala, one Grand and one AW139 plus options for 37 helicopters.
