Jindalee
The Jindalee is an over-the-horizon backscatter (OTH-B) early warning radar system, operating in the HF band (5-28 MHz), used by the Royal Australian Air Force. It is a bistatic radar with a transmitting phased-array antenna at Harts Range (Alice Springs, Australia) providing 90° coverage, and a 3 km long receiving linear antenna array at Mount Everard, comprising 462 pairs of quarter-wave radiators and 32 receivers. Originally a research radar with low transmission power, the system underwent six modification phases, with the 1982 "Stage B" version featuring a peak power of 560 kW, an instrumented range of 1,000 to 3,000 km, a range resolution of 20 km, and a beamwidth of 0.5°. From 1995, two additional radar systems were built in Laverton, Western Australia, and Longreach, Queensland, becoming fully operational in 2003 and integrated into the Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN); another system was sold to Canada.
