Description

Dragon is a lightweight, man-portable anti-tank weapon system intended for use by infantry units. The weapon system can be operated by an individual and comprises Dragon missile, launch and sight units. Its wire-guided missile is capable of defeating armored vehicles and fortifications at up to 1,000 meters. The missile warhead can pierce 500mm in armor. Originally it was developed to meet the requirements of the US Army achieving IOC in 1970. Thereafter Dragon anti-tank weapon system has been sold to at least ten allied nations all over the world. SuperDragon and Dragon II are two further versions of this weapon system introduced to bridge performance deficiencies detected in the initial Dragon. The improved models extended Dragon missile range out to 1,500 meters. However, the US Army has developed the far more capable Javelin anti-tank weapon system as a replacement for Dragon. Javelin features longer range, fire-and-forget capability and higher kill probability than Dragon.
