Description

The Katana is a 155mm guided projectile developed by KNDS/Nexter for existing 155mm NATO artillery systems including 52-caliber guns. The munition is programmable and the fuze allows the warhead to detonate on impact, proximity and delayed. The Katana maximum range is 30 kilometers but is expected to be expanded out to 60 kilometers in the near future in both cases hitting the target with pinpoint accuracy. The guidance system combines inertial measurement unit (IMU) and global navigation satellite system (GNSS). In future versions the Katana projectile will incorporate a semi-active laser seeker achieving a precision of several meters. The Katana 155mm artillery projectile was launched by Nexter during the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris June 2018. The Katana 155mm projectile was planned for fielding by 2023 but finally was delayed to 2025.
