Dunay-3U
The Dunay-3U (Cyrillic: Дунай-3У, “Danube-3U”), NATO code name “Cat House,” is an early warning radar operating in the UHF band (388–429 MHz), similar to the Dunay-3M system. Commissioned in May 1978 and located in Chekhov, Moscow Oblast, it forms part of the upgraded A-35M anti-ballistic missile system. The radar originally featured separate receiver and transmitter sites 2.7 kilometers apart; the transmitter site utilized two phased-array antennas oriented to cover two sectors, with 30 waveguides each powered by a 100 kW transmitter, achieving a peak power of 3 MW and an instrumented range of 3,000 km (1,600 NM). Since 2003, it has operated at a reduced power of 500 kW, using a single antenna with 12 transmitters, and has been used for satellite surveillance in low Earth orbit since 1995, employing intrapulse modulation and pulse compression.
