Description

The New Glenn is a space launch system being developed by Blue Origin featuring a fully reusable first stage in order to bring people and cargo to Earth orbit. The New Glenn consists of two variants with two and three stages plus the upper stage. The first stage is powered by seven reusable BE-4 engines burning liquid oxygen (LOx) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The first stage employs landing burn to return safely to the launch pad making it thus reusable. The second stage is powered by a re-ignitable BE-4U engine and is optimized for operations in the vacuum of space. The third stage is powered by a BE-3 engine burning liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. In October 2018, the US Air Force (USAF) awarded Blue Origin a $500 million contract for the New Glenn development under the Evolved Expandable Launch Vehicle (EELV) program.
