The Japanese Air Self-Defense Air Force (JASDF) F-X is a fifth generation aircraft intended as the replacement for the F-2 fleet beginning in 2035. The Godzilla stealth aircraft is expected to feature super cruise, supersonic speed without afterburner, to outmatch the larger Chinese Air Force and counter the Russian Air Force. The aircraft is expected to be larger than the US Air Force F-22 Raptor with longer range and greater payload. It will be powered by two XF-9-1 engines developed by Ishikawa Heavy Industries. The aircraft development will be carried out by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation with technical assistance from partners in Europe and/or the United States. The F-X stealth jet program was launched in early 2020 within its scope Japan will buy 100 aircraft for over $40 billion including research and development efforts (R&D).
