Description

The Shahed, also referred as Shehad or Shahab, is a kamikaze drone developed by the Islamic Republic of Iran to engage targets on the ground at a distance of 250 kilometers. The Shehab may have some relationship with the Ababil unmanned air vehicle (UAV). The Shehab strike drone was used successfully by the Palestinians of Hamas against the state of Israel in May 2021 causing dramatic damages against a chemical plant and the Demona nuclear power plant. The Shahed-136 is a kamikaze drone designed to carry out swarm attacks at a maximum range of 1,000 kilometers. The system is deployed on a ground multiple launch system with the drone assisted by a rocket engine during launch. It has been adopted by Russia as the Geran-2 drone and was used in September 2022 in Ukraine. Russian has modified the Geran-2 drone adding a GLONASS navigation system for enhanced accuracy.
