Description
The ADATS is a turret-mounted low-level air defense that uses a X-band pulse-Doppler radar and electro-optical sensors (TADS/PNVS from Apache helicopter) to detect airborne threats and to engage them with laser beam-riding guided missiles. Up to 6 ADATS systems can be coordinated to achieve a more effective performance. The whole system can be reloaded (8 missiles) in only 10 minutes. The ADATS weapon system has been integrated on the M113 and M3 chassis resulting in a highly mobile air defense system. Originally it was developed for use in the US Army but the program was cancelled and only Canada and Thailand acquired several ADATS weapon systems.
