Description
The Golden Dome, formerly known as America’s Iron Dome, is a United States initiative to create and air and space missile defense system. The Golden Dome system will include space-based high-energy laser weapon systems and interceptors to counter hypersonic weapons, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. The Golden Dome strategic defense initiative was launched in March 2025. It is estimated that the project will cost $500 billion over 20 years. In May 2025, the Pentagon announced that the project development would cost $175 billion with an initial operational capability planned for 2028.
