Description

The Next-Generation Combat Vehicle (NGCV), also known as Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV), is a US Army program aimed at delivering an infantry fighting vehicle as replacement for the Bradley. The vehicle may feature increased firepower and enhanced survivability to confront the challenge of the big power competition against Russia and China. Other features may be active protection system (APS), unmanned air vehicle and network centric warfare capabilities. The NGCV is expected to operate effectively both in urban and rural terrains. The US Army expects to field the first NGCV armored vehicles by 2026. In 2020 the program was slated to deliver a working solution by 2028. In June 2023, the US Army selected General Dynamics Land Systems and American Rheinmetall for the XM30 Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle program with an entry into service estimated by 2030.
