The TaepoDong 2 is based on two- and three-stage layout and is intended to strike targets at ranges of between 4,300 and 6,200 or even 10,000-15,000 kilometers with improved technology and engines. The three-stage layout is basically an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) aimed at targets in the United States of America. The TaepoDong 2 development has been on hold following political pressure from the international community. It was tested in July 2006 but resulted in a complete failure. It could be equipped whether with nuclear, bacteriological or chemical (NBC) warheads.
