Description

The Heil is an underwater drone developed by North Korea to carry a nuclear warhead at long distances of at least 1,000 kilometers. The Heil-1 underwater drone was first tested in Mach 2023 (600 kilometers) and the Heil-2 in April 2023 (1,000 kilometers). The Heil torpedo/underwater drone seems to be powered conventionally but carrying either a conventional or nuclear payload. The Haeil-5-23 is an unmanned underwater vehicle developed by North Korea and capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. The Haeil-5-23 weapon is intended to counter the large navies operated by the United States, Japan and South Korea in the waters surrounding North Korea. The new weapon system was unveiled in January 2024 while the first test was conducted in March 2023 by the Heil prototype.
