MSTAR (V6)
The MSTAR (Manportable Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radar) V6 is a versatile Ku-band pulse-Doppler ground surveillance radar, operating with 5 W peak power and an instrumented range from 100 m to 27 km. It detects helicopters, vehicles, and infantry, replacing the Marconi ZB 298, and assists artillery observers by detecting the fall of shot. Designed for continuous 24/7 operation in harsh environments, it features enhanced automation for reduced operator controls and can be integrated into complex security systems to cue optical sensors with accurate target position information. The MSTAR V6 uniquely classifies targets as personnel, tracked or wheeled vehicles, rotary wing, or unknown, and its electroluminescent display shows dead ground relief, target track history, and can superimpose a 1:50,000 scale map grid. Powered by a standard army field battery, it can be vehicle-borne or man-packed into three loads, and is designated AN/PPS-5 in the U.S. Armed Forces.
