Description

The Russian Air Force Zveno-3S is an airborne command post also referred to Doomsday airplane intended to host the President of Russia during a nuclear strike. The Zveno-3S is a derivative of the Il-96-400M airliner and will be fitted with a comprehensive suite of communications equipment in order to command bombers, submarines and land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles as well as the whole of Russian Armed Forces. The development of the Zveno-3S was made public in late July 2021 with the Russian Air Force set to operate two or three such aircraft. The Zveno-3S will be replacement for the Il-80 allowing flights twice as far and air refueling for extended flights.
