Description

The Karar, also known as Karrar or 'Striker' in English, is a tactical long-range unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Iran under its weapons program started in 1992 as a response to the United States arms embargo. It was unveiled on August 22, 2010, and its primary use is for release of bombs such as Qassed and maybe Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) gathering missions. Karar was the nickname of revered Shiite Imam Ali. The four-meter long Karar drone, also referred to as unmanned bomber, uses a turbofan or rocket motor and can be armed with a single bomb according to the images of the unveiling ceremony. The aircraft is designed to take off from a launching pad and cruise at speeds of 900 kilometers per hour over ranges of 1,000 kilometers. It can be armed with either two 250-lb bombs or a single 450-lb bomb. The Karrar has been also dubbed 'ambassador of death' to Iran's enemies.
