Description

The NEC Corporation ASR (Airport Surveillance Radar) is a high-performance air traffic control (ATC) radar operating in the S-band (2,700–2,900 MHz). It is designed to provide air traffic controllers with a reliable and clear picture of air traffic within its instrumented range of 60 nautical miles (110 km) or 80 nautical miles (150 km). The radar utilizes a dual-beam antenna, featuring a cosecant-squared pattern for general surveillance and a narrower pencil beam for low-altitude coverage. Its fault-tolerant solid-state transmitter can be configured with 16 to 90 standardized power modules, offering peak power between 10 and 50 kW, and pulsewidths of 1 or 80 µs. The primary radar can also be equipped with an additional LVA antenna for Mode-S capable secondary radar systems manufactured by NEC.
