M6 Linebacker
M6 Linebacker
The M6 Linebacker has been designed to provide short range air defense capability to armored front-line units. It is a derivative of the combat proven M2 Bradley. The turret mounted TOW missiles launcher has been replaced by a 4 Stinger missiles launcher. The sentinel radar target acquisition system has been provided to the M6 Linebacker. The M6 Linebacker retains the Bushmaster 25mm gun and the 7.62mm machine gun associated with the M2 Bradley. The 4-man crew can conduct an surface-to-air engagement under armor and on the move. As of 2018 the M6 air defense vehicle was retired from service with the US Army with the possibility of a new short range air defense (SHORAD) system being developed on the basis of the A4 platform.
