Description
The 120 SHARD is a 120mm Armor-Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) round developed by Nexter for main battle tanks (MBTs) equipped with 120mm NATO smoothbore guns. The new ammunition is intended for use by the Leclerc, Leopard 2, M1A2 Abrams and Ariete tanks. The new round design is optimized to destroy hostile tanks equipped with advanced composite and reactive explosive armor. The 120mm round development was announced in March 2021 and is expected to enter mass production by the end of 2022.
