Description

The SPACIDO (SAMPRASS) is a fuze course correction device developed in cooperation between GIAT Industries, TDA Armaments and Thales for the French Ministry of Defense. The aim of SPACIDO is to improve existing 105mm and 155mm artillery rounds precision through a GPS independent and low cost device. The CEP (Circular Error Probability) of a munition equipped with SPACIDO gets divided by four providing thus minimized collateral damage. The first live firing demonstration series were completed successfully in June 2006 at Bourges ETBS test center, France. During the tests, which involved firings at ranges of 19 km, SPACIDO validated various elements and performances of the system: localization of the projectile, calculation, communication of the correction order to the fuze, deployment and efficiency of the trajectory correcting system integrated in the fuze.
