The US Navy FFG(X) is a guided-missile, multipurpose frigate program slated as the follow-on to the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. The new surface combatant will be equipped with the COMBATSS-21 combat management system, a fixed phased array radar, AN/SLQ-61 towed array sonar, AN/SQS-62 variable depth sonar, AN/SQQ-89F underwater warfare system and CEC Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC). The FFG(X) weapon system will include a new long-range anti-ship missile (LRASM?), ESSM Block 2 surface-to-air missiles, Standard SM-6 long-range surface-to-air missiles, SeaRam close-range air defense system and Mk 110 57mm naval gun. As of early 2018 several teams are placing their bids for the FFG(X) program with a contract awarded expected in fiscal year 2020. The US Navy plans call for the procurement of 20 FFG(X) ships beginning by the end of the 2020s and following through the end of the 2030s. In November 2025, the US Navy downscaled the program with only two ships to be commissioned.
