Kh-BD
Kh-BD
The Kh-BD is a new version of the Kh-101/102 cruise missile with improved features and an estimated range of over 6,000-7,000 kilometers. The new missile is expected to be deployed onboard the latest variant of the Tu-160 strategic bomber beginning in 2020. The new cruise missile achieved initial operational capability along the Tu-160M bomber in September 2023. The estimated range may exceed the 6,500 kilometers range with some reports suggesting the real max range of 8,500 kilometers. Besides, the new weapon can be launched from Su-34 bombers and other tactical fighters. The weapon seems to be aimed at the United States of America, with the ability to hit targets deep into the continental US territory such as arms factories and military facilities, due to its astonishing range for a conventional armed cruise missile. The Kh-BD weapon is the successor to early production Kh-101 conventionally armed cruise missiles. The Kh-BD may feature improvements related to the aerodynamics, fuel, engine, stealth signature, avionics and navigation system enhancing both its range, survivability and effectiveness. A further version of the Kh-BD missile with additional improvements might replace the Kh-102 nuclear armed cruise missile.
