Description

The AN/GPN-22, also known as Hi-PAR, is a solid-state, phased-array Precision Approach Radar (PAR) manufactured by Raytheon E-Systems. Operating in the X-band (9,000-9,200 MHz) with a peak power of 300 kW, it is designed for unattended use in fixed-base air traffic control, particularly in high-density environments. The system features a fixed equipment shelter with the antenna mounted on a separate rotating base, providing an azimuth scan width of 20 degrees and an elevation scan width of 8 degrees. It can simultaneously track and control up to six aircraft within an instrumented range of 20 nautical miles (37 km) in all weather conditions, utilizing frequency diversity in scan mode to enhance target detection and eliminate fluctuations.
