Description

The Textron Systems Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV) is a 4x4 platform designed to meet the requirements of the Canadian Army over the next 25 years in terms of survivability, mobility and versatility for the toughest conditions. The TAPV leverages ballistic and blast protection from the proven Textron Armored Security Vehicle (ASV) adding new technologies and features. The TAPV primary missions are reconnaissance and utility but can also be configured for patrol, protection, mortar carrier, ambulance, armored personnel carrier (APC) and C3 (Command, Control and Communications) missions. The vehicle interior has been designed to provide special protection against roadside bombs as well as optimum comfort and payload. In June 2012, the Canadian government awarded Textron Systems a contract for the production of 500 TAPVs beginning in July 2014 through March 2016 with an option for an additional 100 vehicles. The 38,000-lb TAPV is powered by a Cummins QSL 365 365-hp diesel engine with four Michelin 16.00R20 XZL tyres featuring Hutchinson run flat inserts. The cabin allows for a three-man crew (driver, gunner and commander) and up to four troops. The vehicle can be equipped with a roof-mounted Kongsberg Protector weapon station. In addition to Textron Systems, Textron Marine & Land Systems, Kongsberg, Rheinmetall Defence and EODC are also involved in the engineering and production phases of this program.
