Description

The German Army DEU is a robotized variant of the Wiesel 1 lightweight tracked vehicle developed to serve as a mine clearance vehicle operated remotely by a crew inside a modified Fuchs 1A8 wheeled armored vehicle. The DEU vehicle is fitted with a dual sensor with ground penetrating radar and metal detector to localize buried landmines and improvised explosive devices (IED) on-road and off-road. The system relies on modified Fuchs 1A8 vehicles operating as mobile command posts. Both command vehicles and robotized Wiesel vehicles are transported by Multi FSA trucks from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV). The DEU route clearance system was first ordered by the German Army in 2011 and a second order was awarded to Rheinmetall in 2019.
