Description

The T-64BV is a T-64B upgraded with ERA added to the hull and turret. The T-64BV can be differentiated from the T-64B by the large quantity of ERA added to the turret and hull. T-64BV may appear similar to a T-72 once up-armored. The two may be separated either by the way that the ERA is added to the turret, which on the T-72 may simply consist of ERA tiles added flat to the turret instead of in an arrowhead shape. Alternatively, T-72s with arrow-shaped ERA on the turret front will often carry much larger ERA tiles that leave gaps between each section of armor.

Variants

T-64A Production version of base tank. Tank has a history of reliability problems, and lacks the high armor protection, track skirts, a fcs and ATGM launch capability for t-64b.

T-64BK Command tank version, with 10-m whip antenna.

T-64B1 Variant has partial era mounted; the few original t-80s retained were upgraded to this standard

T-64B T-64B or 447A (1976) – Fitted with redesigned armor, 1A33 fire control system, 9K112-1 "Kobra" ATGM system (NATO code "AT-8 Songster"), TPN-1-49-23 sight, 2A46-2 gun, 2E26M stabilizer and 6ETs40 loader. Later B/BV models have more modern systems 1A33-1, TPN-3-49, 2E42 and a 2A46M-1 gun. From 1985 the T-64B was fitted with stronger glacis armor; older tanks were upgraded with a 16-mm armor plate. Tanks, equipped with the 1,000 hp 6DT engine are known as T-64BM.

T-64U/T-64BM2 Upgrade series marketed by Ukrainian Malyshev in 2001. T-64u prototype featured 2nd gen era, composite armor, and fire suppression equipment. Variant added t-80u fire control (1a42 gunner day sight) and thermal night sight-permits it to replace rf-guided at-8/kobra ATGM with better refleks series (svir/invar) laser-beam rider ATGMs. Ukrainian-developed lbr-guided ATGM Kombat similar to refleks. A later variant changed the fcs to t-80ud/t-90 type, with 1a45 day sight, and AGAT thermal night sight
