Description
The ASTROS III artillery system utilizes a 8x8 high mobility chassis carrying a heavier payload and greater firepower than ASTROS II. It was developed in the 2000s by Avibras Aeroespacial for the export market along with a new re-supply vehicle. Some reports claimed that an unknown foreign customer funded the entire ASTROS III program. This artillery system can also conduct coastal defense missions in the littoral environment. The SS-150 rocket and the AV-MT Tactical Ballistic Missile were developed alongside ASTROS III MLRS by Avibras to provide engagement capability against targets located at longer ranges.
