Description

The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Type 901 is a massive replenishment vessel with a full displacement in excess of 40,000-ton class ship intended to resupply the planned Chinese aircraft carrier battle groups at sea. The new vessel is faster to get rid of hostile submarine tracking. The Type 901 features a new propulsion system and a new at sea re-supply system. These ships will store and carry fuel, ammunition, dry goods and other supplies to Chinese warships deployed far away from continental China. These auxiliary vessels are provided with flight deck and hangar to operate a single Z-8 helicopter. The construction of the lead ship started in 2013 and was commissioned on September 1, 2017. A second ship will be commissioned in 2018.
