Project 1155M

The Project 1155M is a planned upgrade for surviving Udaloy class destroyers to allow these ships to operate into the 2020s and even 2030s. The Russian Navy plans call for the upgrade of four to eight destroyers in the early 2020s. These destroyers will be upgraded because of the better performance of their propulsions system compared with Project 956 class destroyers. The exact specifications of the upgrades remain unknown but they should include refitting the weapon system with new supersonic and subsonic missiles to engage both surface and airborne targets as well as an upgraded sensors suite. There are reports about the Project 1155M Udaloy M encompassing Kalibr as well as Onyx missile systems being placed into new vertical launching systems along with upgraded short-range air defense system such as the Pantsyr-M.
