Sayyad-3
Sayyad-3
The Sayyad-3 is a long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) intended to hit airborne targets at ranges of up to 200 kilometers developed by the Islamic Republic of Iran under its domestic weapons program started in 1992 as a response to the United States arms embargo. The Sayyad-3 was developed for the Talash 3 air defense system which entered service in April 2015. The variety of targets intended for the new missile include helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with small radar cross section (RCS), cruise missiles and fast and highly maneuverable fixed-wing aircraft. The Sayyad 3 missile is stored inside a canister and launched vertically and features an hybrid navigation and guidance system. The guidance system is said that can intercept targets automatically and independently of the Talash 3 air defense system and is hardened against electronic countermeasures (ECM). The Sayyad 3 can intercept targets flying as high as 30,000 meters at ranges of up to 200 kilometers. The missile itself flies at an estimated speed of March 4 or 5.
