Taifun-RS

The Taifun-RS attack drone has been developed to locate and destroy armored and non-armored targets at ranges of up to 500 kilometers. It can cover a search zone of up to 2,000 square kilometers while seeking and classifying potential targets. In addition to the attack role, the Taifun can also perform as a reconnaissance system. The Taifun-RS was developed to be deployed in nine, six or four UAV containers configuration mounted on Hummer-sized vehicles in support of rapid reaction light forces. Several Taifun air vehicles can be assigned to a single control station consisting of three PC-based workstations. A dual mode radar and IR seeker has been provided to Taifun as well as a radar-absorbing coating to carry out its mission in stealth conditions. This seeker supplies real-time imagery that is relayed back to the ground control station. Flight endurance of this kind of UAV is approximately four hours. The Taifun launch system utilizes a booster to extract the air vehicle from its container. Pre-programmed flight-paths are transmitted to the UAV via fiber optic link from the control station before launch. A non-line-of-sight radio frequency data link ensures communication between the air vehicle and the control station after launch. The Taifun control station operator is responsible for selecting the target to be destroyed. High resolution imagery provided by the air vehicle enables Taifun operators to do that task.
