Description
The Pantsir-S1M is a variant equipped with long-range electromagnetic (EM) cannon in order to destroy the avionics and control systems of unmanned air vehicles and aircraft. The Pantsir-S1M is expected to operate in passive mode firing its EM weapon at targets at ranges of up to 18 kilometers. The new weapon system is expected to be field tested in Syria and Nagorno-Karabakh with Ukraine being another potential proving ground. The weapon system was under development in 2021 with an estimated entry into service in the 2023-2025 timeframe.
