The BrahMos-A is a variant designed for launch by airborne platforms. A $50 million contract for this new variant was issued December 2005 with the aim to developed an aircraft version to be integrated with the Indian Air Force Su-30MKI multi-role fighter. The BrahMos A was slated to enter the flight testing phase in 2009. According to the Indian press, a modified Su-30MKI is capable of carrying up to three BrahMos-A missiles. In addition to the Su-30, the missile may be integrated with the Mig-31 air defense fighter and the Tu-142 maritime patrol aircraft. The air-launched BrahMos version features smaller booster and additional tail fins for stability during launch. India is planning to integrate the BrahMos A with the Indian Navy's Il-38 maritime patrol aircraft and the Indian Air Force's Su-30MKI aircraft.
