Description

The European Multifunction Phased-Array Radar (EMPAR), designated MM/SPY-790 by the Italian Navy, is a C-band (IEEE) or G-band (NATO) multifunction rotating electronically scanned radar. Developed for the Italian and French navies, EMPAR provides target acquisition, tracking, and missile guidance for the Aster SAAM fire control system. It features a fully coherent transmitter with a traveling wave tube final stage, a passive phased array antenna with a 1.5 × 1.5 m aperture, a peak power of 120 kW, and an instrumented range of 150 km (90 NM). Seven EMPAR systems were produced starting in 2006 and were later modernized to the EMPAR MFRA configuration with an active electronically scanned array antenna.
